Dear Family of Animal Friends,

When we decided to purchase this home and create a natural environment for our animals, we knew it was a huge undertaking and costly endeavor. We reached out to you for help and without hesitation; you were there; willing and able to do just that!

Tony and I are completely humbled by your generosity directly and/or indirectly. Words of thanks seem so inadequate compared to our heartfelt gratitude. Please know we are so grateful in all you have done and continue to do to assist; helpful hands, support, gifts, monetary donations, time, web page updates and raffles. Without all of you we would not be as far along as we are or able to continue towards completion.

Tony and I are still living apart in two locations till we have all the animals moved here to Hudson. It is hard on us emotionally and financially with the constant commuting between the two homes. We are looking forward to the day the move is complete and we can again resume construction of the Natural Area for the ferrets.

For those who do not know my husband, Tony is working full time to support all of this, building all the animal enclosures to house the cats, dogs and ferrets after work and on weekends, packing & moving our belongings since he is still living in Statesville to save on fuel, commuting hours on end and trying to keep on top of book keeping, accounting, paperwork for his company and the shelter, animal care and the huge lists of "Needs to be Done". He is very tired and frustrated with trying to prioritize and get it all done. Personally, I do not know how he does it all but he does. Tony is "The Wind Beneath My Wings" enabling me to continue sheltering and 99.9% of the shelters financial support. Without Tony, we could and would not exist. In the 11 years of his support of our shelter, all the work he does and the caring for so many unwanted animals, Tony receives little to no thanks for all he does. Shelter Dads get far too little recognition.

I know Tony sometimes feels unappreciated for all of this and gets a little discouraged. I would like him to know just how much he is needed and appreciated in the ferret/animal community by asking you to send him a little thank you note of encouragement to email address: shelterdadnc@att.net if you feel moved to do so. A little appreciation can go a long way and if he knows others appreciate him it will mean a lot to him. Supporting our cause through donations and raffles does take some of the financial burdens off him and believe me; it is a lot right now.

Only 5 days left on the raffles folks. Please go check them out and get your tickets before it is too late. These are really nice items! The raffle ends September 6th along with the 50/50 Raffle. Total to date in 50/50 raffle is $133.00.

Subject: Only two weeks left for raffles for Ferret Guardian Rescue Haven


Thanks to everyone for supporting our Shelter / Natural Area by purchasing Raffle tickets and/or making monetary donations!!! Only two weeks left on the raffles folks. Please go check them out and get your tickets now. These are some really great items. The raffle ends September 6th along with the 50/50 Raffle still going on.

The shelter is redesigned and working better for the ferrets and for us. The ventilation exhaust systems Tony installed are working out great. We also have been offered two used ceiling fans from some really nice folks in northern VA. We are working very hard to make sure the ferrets have the best of environment, nutrition, care and it won't be long till the Natural Area project is again in full swing. We really do need to raise more money to complete it by the end of September (Fall) so we can release the beasties into it before winter gets here. Since we may not have time to put together a Grand Opening/Fundraising event by the time it is complete, we are hoping to get a wireless Web-Cam for all to not only watch the release, but watch over the years to come. Although an event will not happen by the release time, we are hoping to have the Grand Opening/Fundraiser event by spring of 2009.

Subject: Ferret Guardian Update on Natural Area, Raffles, & Thank you's


Thank you to everyone who has purchased Raffle tickets and/or made donations!!! Only three weeks left on raffles. These items are really, really nice. Please go check them out and get your tickets now. http://www.fgrh.org/raffle3.html There are some really great items for ferrets and humans alike. The raffle will run for 3 more weeks, ending September 6th along with the 50/50 Raffle still going on. Please folks, we really need your help.

Well we have been extremely busy with several things happening here at the shelter. The good news is adoptions are now in full swing again since the special project requiring a LOT of ferrets is now over. Today, we adopted 4 ferrets to two very special homes. We also had a very generous (I mean generous!!!) donation from the Bell family towards our natural area project. Thank you so much and bless you!!! It has been designated towards the cost of the wire mesh and screen for the Natural Area walls. Construction will resume after my husband gets moved up here with me in a couple of weeks and we raise more funds.

At present; the shelter is being redesigned to work better for the ferrets and us who have to "scoop-da-poop". Tony installed two ventilator exhaust systems in the ceiling this evening which is much needed. One of those overlooked situations prior to the moving ferrets in. We also need to get 2-3 ceiling fans to circulate air even though the mini split A/C unit is awesome at keeping it cool. Who would have thunk a garage could be so air tight. We are working very hard to make sure the ferrets have the best of environment, nutrition, care. We know the project is not going as quickly as we had hoped for and wanted but please keep in mind we are completing this ourselves and as we have the funds.

Subject: Ferret Guardian Update on Natural Area, Raffles, & Thank you's
Hey everyone,

Can not thank all of you enough for your generosity of monetary gifts and raffle ticket purchases. Would also like to publicly thank Barb Clay of Rocky's for her wonderful post she did in support of our Natural Area. Great response to it and thank you so much Barb! For those who cross-posted also, thank you. Please feel free to cross-post this email as well.

The Natural Area is on hold for the moment unfortunately for two reasons;

1. We have to concentrate on the shelter part of the project since move in date of July 19th is fast approaching and da-fuzzies need a place to go for comfort.

2. We have basically run out of money and had to go into the shelter renovation funds to do as much as we did. We should have it completed shortly after we move in.

Here is what we have raised so far:

Monetary Donations - $2375.00

Raffle sales will be posted at end of raffle.

The good news, we have a pond for it now. It is a used pond but in EXCELLENT shape and the great news is only cost $50.00 as opposed to the $250.00+ it would have cost new. Thank you Jed for all your help!

The Natural Area website has been updated with new pictures.

Raffle #1 will be ending July 12th. 9 more days. Please go check them out and help us complete the natural enclosure for the ferrets. More will be coming soon.

Raffle #2 begins July 4th. This single item raffle is a 50-50 raffle. The 50-50 raffle will run for 2 months. Drawing will be held Saturday, Sept 6th. We will display a running tally on the raffle page so everyone can see how much is in the pot for the 50-50 raffle. At the end of the raffle, the total amount of money will be split 50/50 between one lucky winner and our Natural Area Fund. This is a great chance to win a nice sum of cash! Single tickets will be $1 or you can buy 6 tickets for $5 or 12 for $10.

We have had requests for more bedding in the raffles. Normally I would sew but with the move, shelter chores, vets and construction, just do not have time to do so. If anyone who sews can make and donate some bedding, we would deeply appreciate it. I have precut bedding in need of seamstresses. If anyone will volunteer to sew it for us, I'll send it to you.

Monetary donations to assist with this project are still needed. If you can spare a dollar we will be forever grateful. Everything helps.
