Ferret Information Resources
There's an abundance of good ferret care information on the Internet.
Here are some useful Web sites and Discussion Groups. You might also want to check out
TriFL's Ferret Information for a more regional focus.
Comprehensive Web Sites
- Where's a good place to learn about ferrets and their
care?
Think you might want a ferret as a pet? Be sure to get some
information before you bring that first one into your home!
- Ferret
Central is probably the best place on the Web to start looking for ferret
information.
- Do not miss the fantastic
FAQs, also at Ferret Central!
- If you need medical information, Ferret Central's Medical Overview and Medical FAQs are excellent.
- Another fantastic, well-organized general site is Ferret Net, especially if you get a little
overwhelmed at Ferret Central.
- You might also try searching and browsing The Archives of the
FML. There are many very knowledgeable people on this listerv, and good
advice is given there regulary. As a caveat, however, remember that although
information in the FML is given with the best of intentions, the individual posts
reflect one persons's opinions or experiences. Especially with medical advice,
be sure to check authoritative sources and read a range of more recent posts
on the topic, if possible, to get a balanced view.
- I live in [insert your home here], and I'd like to know if there's a ferret shelter/vet/club/breeder
in my area.
- Oh, and by the way...
Have you checked in on Modern Ferret
Magazine lately? These folks are doing an incredible amount of work and produce
a very fine and entertaining magazine!
Discussion Groups (Email Discission Lists,
Newsgroups)
Sometimes the best or only way to get a question answered is to ASK someone! Here are some great places
to start. You might also find yourself answering questions asked by others...
- The Ferret Mailing List (FML)
This list is an
extremely helpful resource for any ferret owner; it arrives once daily in a
digest format. Archives are also
available on the web. The FML includes active discussion of all topics related
to the care of the domestic ferret. You can subscribe by sending email to:
ferret-request@cunyvm.cuny.edu
- TriFL Discussion List
This is an e-mail discussion list for people in the Triangle, North Carolina,
area. We use it to keep up
with club meetings, plans, etc.. We also use it to ask each other
questions about caring for our beloved pets. It is currently hosted at Yahoo! Groups. Our page is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TriFL.
- alt.pets.ferrets newsgroup
