August 1st Meeting Notes:

  1. June 13th Adoption Day at PetsMart (this IS the correct capitalization folks!) in Raleigh was well received - a great educational opportunity and upper management is very responsive.
  2. July 11th Education Day at Border's Books Music and Caf in Cary was boring. Lots of store customers, but no one interested in visiting our large display. First time for everything.
  3. Education Chairperson Cindy Barnes has volunteered to pick up and return the Center's key at the Morrisville Parks & Rec for the next couple of months. Please consider helping out and take your turn.
  4. We were not accepted to participate at Durham's CenterFest in September. If you attend the festival, protest to someone in authority.
  5. Last chance folks! If you have donations for the our annual Yard Sale at the State Fairgrounds on August 29 & 30, now is your opportunity to arrange to bring over/drop off your items. We will be renting a small U-Haul to load up Thursday or Friday night. If you wish to participate in pricing and loading Thursday/Friday nights or volunteering to work the sale, please contact Shari at 231-3222.
  6. The club is investigating the best way to participate in some type of Education Day at area public school classrooms. After finalizing the details of when and where, we will need volunteers to give a presentation on the Mustela putorius furo to a bunch of kids in 40 minute time slots. If you know a school teacher who would be interested in the club giving a presentation to their class, please contact Cindy at 553-0114.
  7. State-Non-Profit shelter The Ferret Guardian Rescue Haven's operator, Diane Campbell, is in need of...adopters. Shock! Disbelief! We've received many a call and email from all over the state in the past two months about ferts needing new homes. Therefore, the Shelter in conjunction with TriFL, will be holding an Adoption Day at PetsMart in Raleigh on Saturday, August 15th from 10am-4pm. No ferts will be adopted out the same day - applications will be reviewed on Sunday and offers of adoption will be contacted asap. If you would like to help out at this event (answering questions and posing for TV cameras) contact Nicole at Imagnepeac@aol.com.
  8. We will have a booth at the Reptile & Exotic Animal Pet Show (State Fairgrounds-inside the Holshauser Building) on Saturday & Sunday, September 5 & 6 from 9:30am-5:30pm. This in an important event for TriFL, as there were over 3,900 attendees in May! Please volunteer for a 4 hour shift.
  9. Please remember to sign in on the "Sign In" sheet at each event so that TriFL can track your participation hours to get your discount or $10 refund at your membership renewal date (see your mailing label).
  10. TriFL has been invited to have a free booth (for the 4th year in a row) at Raleigh's Renaissance Faire in March 1999. Please give your input if you think we should participate and would like to volunteer or be the Sub-Chair for this fun event.
  11. Matt Herr is our Sub- Chair coordinator for our Saturday, October 3rd Halloween Party from 4:30pm-6:30pm. If you have decorations, need costuming ideas, or want to bring a drink/food item - give him a call at 967-6117. For our first photo contest, your are welcome to bring your "Cutest Ferret" picture.
  12. Lundie's Photography Studio pet portrait discount coupons are available at each meeting.
  13. Thanks goes to Carolyn Paisie for offering to bring refreshments to our September 7th meeting/social!
  14. Welcome! to new members Robynn & Bishop, Caity Martin, and Toni Sans' family.

Newsletter Editor Wanted:

After almost three years as Newsletter Editor, I am needing to "hand over the torch" to another volunteer.

I have received overwhelming joy and knowledge by providing area ferret owners monthly information of ferret care and humor for over 33 issues. You need not be a "ferret expert" to produce the newsletter - there are many resources of up-to-date fert info, plus my hard copy file of articles for future insertion is 2 inches thick.

In September, I begin a part-time career along with my full-time, plus continue being the Club Contact, event volunteer, unsolicited Shelter PR person, and fert-mom. Instead of jeopardizing the quality of the club newsletter, I ask for a volunteer to take over the responsibility. The club pays for the photocopying, folding, address labels, and stamps - everything. I have all the past Table of Contents on disk, as well as hard copies for your perusal. If you want to change the layout - go for it! If not, it's currently in WP51 format.

Besides detailed instructions on how I produce the newsletter (about a total of 4 hours a month), I am available to help out with content, photographs of ferts, and resources - all you need to do is be a part of our educational efforts in our community.

Please email or call me by August 31st if you are interested in being the new TriFL Newsletter Editor.
