TriFL's Random Image Grabber

Every TriFL ferret can be a CoverFerret

Back when this website first started, many years ago now, BunBun hogged the spotlight. I decided it was time for her to share. No, it's not in her nature to share, but she has been out-voted this time. Actually, maybe it's best if no one tells her... :-)

The idea here is that whenever a page on the site loads, a random image from this directory is chosen for display at the top of the page. This way, many of the wonderful Ferrets of TriFL can be in the spotlight. And you can waste time by aimlessly re-loading pages over and over again to see if the randomizing script has any favorites!

To keep that page loading pretty quickly, I'm trying to keep all coverferret images under about 15 Kb and fairly small in dimensions.

I've gone through the TriFL images a couple of times and pulled out some nice ones. In many cases, I cropped existing pictures and used JPEG compression to get the file size down.

If you have suggestions, please let me know at pjdutche@email.unc.edu. I'll be going through the image archive more to get additional pictures in the coverferret directory. If you have a favorite or would like to give me a photo to add, please just let me know.

I modified Chris Holland's Random Picture Browser Perl script to do this business end of this task. This script is freely available on the web at The CGI Resource Index: Programs and Scripts: Perl: Random Images.
